"Once You Go Troll, You Never Re-Roll"

Spit Happens

Greetings from da’ Troll hunter and the end of a great week! As you can see the blog has undergone a huge transformation over the past few days and I think it looks a little better to.  My daughter picked the new design, so be nice with your comments please.

So I end this week with the very controversial subject, the /spit emote that’s used in Warcraft.  Recently I’ve seen this subject brought up several times that it should be removed from the game because it’s rude and degrading, do I agree? Nope. Why? Because it’s just a game, it’s not RL and if the opposite faction is going to use that emote on me because I pawn them from on top of tower in Wintergrasp then oh well, it proves that I did my job.

Do I use the /spit emote? Yup, I sure do, as a matter a fact I use it all the time in the battlegrounds. Why you ask? It’s called strategy, and yes, it work’s wonders on both pissing people off and making them do some very, very stupid crap. Example: Troll Hunter /spits on OP’ed Ret. Human Pally; Pally who is probably a 14 y/o gets very offended and does nothing but try to get through 20 Horde DK’s & Warriors to kill said Troll Hunter time after time again. Troll Hunter lol’s at the Pally and he tries it again, and of course dies over and over again, thus taking OP’ed Pally out of play to pawn the squishies. STRATEGY!! This works to especially well on Rogues, man they get pissed.

Do I do this to purposely offend they other faction? Hell yes I do, that’s all part of the battle plan, making the other side make mistakes like that so we win. And if it works then obviously I’m doing something right because we win 90% of the time. War is Hell, you do what it takes to win the final battle. as one blogger put it, “I know its just a game. But for some reason I can handle everything else but when somebody spits on me I totally just go nuts.” Good! Then you will do whatever it takes to try and pawn the offending person, and by doing so more and likely your character will die over and over again. Once again, war strategy, nothing else.

One thing though I totally agree on, and that’s if  you use the emote then you are automatically flagged for PVP when you spit on someone. But if you spit on someone of your own faction, you get flagged for your own faction to attack you (as if you were in an arena). Make any sense?

There has been numerous outcry’s for this emote to be removed from the game, but Blizzard has yet to do it in nearly 5 years, and I seriously doubt that it will be done in the future either. If so then also remove /fart, /moon, /nosepick, /rude as those have been deemed offensive to people to.  Seriously, what’s the difference in my character using /spit, and the other character giving me the finger and telling me to go to Hell?

Folks remember, this sometimes is a game of war. (It’s called Warcraft is it not?). We can’t talk to the enemy but we can sure let them know how we feel with emotes like this. Come on… It’s not like a wad of spit shoots out of your monitor and hits you in the face. If you get offended by a stupid emote, instead of doing something really stupid and trying to get revenge on them just /hug or /lol at them and move on. More and likely it’s someone like da’ troll hunter trying to make you angry and forget your entire team and battleplan. And if it offends you that badly, then me thinks it’s time for you to move on to another game.

Anyways, dat be da’ troll’s two cents worth on the subject this week. Joo’s all take care, have a great weekend, and ‘May Da’ Spirits Be With Joo!”

As always your comments or feedback are welcome!

I was never a fan of /spit 'cause it seemed too rude – but you're right, is it really any less rude than /fart or /nosepick or even /rude? The /rude animations always seemed a little silly so they didn't bother me, but it's all the same, I suppose.

Nice post and an excellent point.

I'm one of the ones that gets offended by it, but I don't go crazy and throw away the fight to kill you. You certainly move up on my priority list, right below healers, but I'm there to win. It bothers me, but more as a matter of encouraging me to be even more effective rather than seeing red and turning into a moron. It doesn't bother me enough to care whether Blizzard takes it or leaves it.

I fully support the flagging for your own faction thing though. I had a guy ninja a node from me and the spit on me that pissed me off enough for the slaying to commence. Had I been able to kill him I'd have taken it. I would have camped the worthless sucker too. Ninja'ing the node was just an annoyance, but throwing in the /spit as well straight up pissed me off.

I'd say the easiest way to deal with it, if you're seriously bothered by it, is to just go to your settings and tell your chat log to leave out emotes. I'm not sure if it's built in by default or not. I use an add on called Chatter that gives me all sorts of chat settings, so it might be part of that.

I agree, some of the emotes are extremely silly and it makes you wonder why in the world they were even added to the game. At first I was very offended by the /spit emote in game, but I quickly got over it when I started to realize that I was being taunted more than anything else. Now I just show them a little "Jungle Love" when it's done to me! xD

Believe it or not, in the past I've had threatening whispers from level one alts. for using it. One even went so far to calling my mother bad names. xD Of course I always report these people for doing so. But I agree, if it offends another player that badly then you really need to find a mod that will let you turn the emotes off. I'll have to look into that and see what I can dig up.

    I believe it.

There are only two forms of insult that will turn my dad immediately to physical violence: insulting my mother, or spitting on/at someone. /postal

I've had people roll toons to come talk smack before for much less than this, so that doesn't surprise me either. It does make me more likely to /spit on you every time I see you though.

I know for a fact that using Chatter will allow you to turn emotes off where they don't show up in your chat log at all. You'll still see the physical aspect of the emotes that have them, but they won't show up in your log. It doesn't let you single out the /spit specifically, it's an all or nothing deal as far as I'm aware. But it is an option.

The wife and I were doing the daily fishing quest where we kill an animal then go jump in the water and fish the resulting pool of blood.

Being Shamans we've got it somewhat easy. I flew off shore, dropped in, created my pool, and water walked and fished up my five.

The wife stood on shore and was going to fish from there.

And, wouldn't you know it, a /spit worthy Gnome Mage parked his Mammoth on top of her pool. I heard him laughing from where I was fishing. He then came and attempted to bother me, but I was in deeper water, and his bobbing around didn't stop me from catching my fish. Back to the wife's spot he went.

Well, it's not a PvP Server, so what to do?

/Spit, and then challenge him to a dual. As he pursued me I ran up the cliffside away from the water's edge. Next thing I see is 5 Gnome Mages blasting me and my health suddenly gone.

Thing was, he was now with me, not on his mammoth, and nowhere near my wife. Who completed her fishing rather than giving up in frustration.

    /spit = Strategy.

Yikes! 5 Gnome Mages? that's almost as creepy as seeing Rosie O 'Donnell in next month's Playboy. *shudders*
